I cut some ~wild flowers for my grandma and failed as a bug hunter once again... after i got to her house i noticed there was an almost 2"/5cm long praying mantis that had stowed away.
Unfortunately this looks like an introduced species... a Chinese mantis. These are commonly purchased in egg case form by gardeners... to hatch and release in their gardens. Unfortunately mantis are generalized predators and are just about as likely to bag a bee (which is bad) as they are a cucumber beetle (good)... *sigh*
