my scorp is usually pretty calm and seems to take alot of harrassment from me without getting aggressive. a few days ago i moved her out of her enclosure to clean it ( put it in the freezer to kill off a baby cricket infestation, to bad i already had let my V. caralinanus go) when i was trying to get her out of the critter keeper she was in i pissed her off in my bungled attempt to pick her up, i dont 'tail' her i scoop her onto my hand, she has before 'thrown' her tail at me but never made contact but this time she apparently did. it wasnt untill 20 minutes or so later that i noticed. my thumb started to burn a little, when i rubbed it it got worse but over all was just a WTF? is wrong with it? kind of pain. i did notice a puncture hole at the site and the only thing i can think of is she did tag me. wasnt anything that i expected from her sting, her pinchers hurt alot worse. this is the first time ive been tagged by any invert ive owned, nothing painful but interesting none the less.

I've never been tagged by an emperor and that is about what I thought the sting would be.  Pretty much like a wasp as far as pain goes from what I've read anyway.

Yeah, that's normal for a sting from an emp. They are big and showy with the pinchers when stressed for a reason, those are the most damaging thing they have and they know it. The sting is just an added extra annoyance, unless you happen to be allergic or something.

I got stung by one once. I had just opened her mailing package, and was making her climb to the back of my hand. I think I should have let her adjust to all the light and calm down from the stress of being mailed. She got on my hand then calmly applied her sting to the back of one of my fingers. I could feel it. It was not pleasant, but only one ten-thousanth the sting of a bee, hardly anything. The sight of it was definately worse. My complaint was that it itched for the next week and-a-half.
