I've been looking to get a captive bred T andreleasing the one I caught. I saw a Chilean Rose Hair T at my local pet store and was wondering if $20 was a fair price for it and what I should be looking for in a healthy rose hair next time i go look at it.

Its hard to price rose hairs sometimes. I have seen them from $5 - $30. But with that aside as far as a healthy T goes, It has to have a full abdomen, if its shrunken its no good. No obvious leasions or damage to the spider.

if you have other bug pets and/or fed the tarantula you caught then it is probably best not to let it go

you can spread various diseases into the wild like that.  there should only be a one way path for bugs... from the wild into the hobby, never the opposite way. i am in the process of researching for an article about such things

I didn't know that. I've only gotten it to eat one mealworm since I've had it, though.

Guess I'll hold on to this guy and have two T's!

you could try to find someone with a female from your area and see if they are the same species. unfortunately native USA tarantulas are pretty poorly understood

oh! how you would feel about donating it to science?  there is a dude that is hopefully going to do a full on study including some DNA STUFF!  how cool is that?  if you are interested check out this thread on arachnoboards:

That's interesting. But it's something I'd have to think about that for a while.

Yeah, like Andrew said....don't release it back into the wild.

Appart from the possibility of spreading diseases......your T wouldn't stand much of a chance from predators. It has no home, and very little area to hide.

Just keep it, or send it to Brent Hendrixon, which I believe Andrew gave you a link for.

Good luck!

I've decided to keep it. But just so you know, it probably would have a chance in the wild. I caught it myself, and have only had it for a week or two.
