I want to get a colony of Isopods going to put in with my A. avic as a "clean up crew".  Can you tell the differance between a male and a female easliy?  Also, I can't really find a whole lot of info on google, any one know of a good site for information?  I could always post all my ?s here if anyone is game.  :)

What are you keeping them for?  Are you going to use them in other cages as a clean-up crew, or just as pets?  Would you mind telling me how you are housing them?

Do Isopods give birth to live babies?  I woke up this morning to a bunch of tiny little white Isopods....  Guess I must have caught a pregnante one!

The main reason i got orange isopods was to culture just to do it. i needed a small piece to add to my collection that was a bit off the standard (spiders, scorps, roaches, etc). I will eventually use them for cleaners, but right now i only have 13 or so adults. I have been keeping them in a lunch meat container, the ones that have the snap on lid, i drill a few holes in the lid about 1/4 inch diameter  and 6 or so across the lid. it has about 1 1/2 inches of moist coco fiber. ive been feeding them shredded cabbage and carrots and they seem to be doing fine. Ive had them for a few weeks now. i just saw the babies about 4-5 days ago. im hoping they will continue to reproduce for me.

Thanks for the info.  I've been giving mine the dead leaves in the area that I found them in.  Didn't think to add anything else in there as a food source.  I'm going to fix that now though.
