I am Canadian born in Toronto currently living in the USA (San Francisco). I attended University at Western Ontario for a B.Sc. in Cell Biology and I have a Masters degree in Zoology at the same place. I have a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Tucson and I am currently a post doctoral fellow at University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). My research focus is on vertebrate embryonic development and I have no formal insect related training or schooling. My interest in insects is very recent and I didn't even take the basic insect science class in undergraduate (mistake).

Past and present beetle list: The stars reflect what I thought of raising the species. I do not keep exotic species anymore and this list does not reflect my current collection.

-Allomyrina dichotomus (***) -from egg to imago in 1 year in a big beetle. They are the best.

-Megasoma elephas (***)- really a treat to raise but they take a long time to pupate. From L3 i waited 2 years to imago.

-Dynastes granti (**)-granti and tityus take two years from egg to imago. Little too long to wait for a med-sized beetle.

-Dynastes tityus (**)

-Strategus aloeus (**)

- Phalacrognatus muelleri (*)- easy enough species to raise and breed but I have never raised large specimens.

-Lucanus elepus (*) note, I have removed two stars for this species as I have had huge difficulty getting larvae to pupate together. I think this species requires more temperature/humidity management then the average species.

-Homoderus mellyi (***)- very fun.

-Rhaetulus crenatus (*)- easy to raise but hard to generate large specimens.

-Eudecella aethiopica (***)- note, adults are smelly.

-Dicronorrhina derbyana (***)

-Cotinus mutabilis (*)

I am always looking for a new species to try or trade. contact me.

Tarantulas:

Brazilian Salmon Pink - Lasiodora parahybana (name-Pink/female)(***)

Avicularia versicolor (name-JayLo/female)(***)

Green bottle blue-Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (name-?/male/dead)(*)

Goliath bird eating spider- theraphosa blondi (name-Blondy/male/dead)(***)

cockroaches:

Madagascar hissing cockroach (***)

I am looking for new beetles to raise or moth and butterflies to hatch from pupa.

I enjoy collecting butterflies and large moths of USA and Canada. I have a small collection of larger eye-catching beetles of USA and Canada.

The outdoors, hiking, birding, orchids.

I just have always had nature DVD's going, books are always out and reading time with Daddy is usually some sort of nature book. Have it be a normal thing in your house. Don't let anyone show fear of an animal around him, especially Mommy.
The uros are great for a calm 6 year old and up. The Mali uros are best for kids and easy to maintain. I will have their new setup displayed in a few weeks.
