So this past weekend I was out of town at a conference in Northern CA, so I paid my brother to take care of my bugs while I was gone. Really, all he had to do was mist and feed my mantids as everything else I have would do just fine for the amont of time i was away. Well, when I returned the other day everything was alive, but I seem to have aquired some new pets, several thousand of them! Well, I have a 20L that I have my Hissers and Turkistan roaches in, and now I h... Read More
so i got three hissing roaches from my mum as a holiday gift, and i've been caring for them for a good three weeks now, but i can't be sure where they came from.. . cause they were a gift. they're all female, and two of them are doing really well. however, the one has gone and lost half of her antenna (on each), which at first didn't bother me, cause i've heard that's fairly common. but then yesterday i was looking at her closer and realized that she's missing the last tarsal segment on two o... I'm so excited! Chong, the last of my hissers out of Farrago, just had her nymphs today. Lots of 'em! No official headcount, but over 20 is definite. I'm really interested to see what they'll grow up to look like since she and Thor are very different in size and color. All the nymphs look really... Read More
Today was the New York Metro Reptile Expo. I had a great day as always; it was a big supply-purchase day as I'm revamping 55g, 30g, and 20g vivariums. I got some great deals on cork bark, feeders, etc. but more importantly, got nine new hissers for breeding stock! I got mostly black morphs as well as some very dark hissers with lighter banding. However, the real gems were a beautiful chocolate brown colored male, and a very young female who unlike most hissers I've ever seen has cream colored le... Read More
So I have noticed a large amount of TV shows and movies use Madagascar hissing Cockroaches in their shows as pesky little bugs. Does this at all bother anyone as much as it bothers me? In the shows, they portray them as these horrible creatures, but their one of the coolest bugs. I think this is why most people are affraid of them, they're told their whole lives that these animals are disgusting and dirty. It makes me sad. The two shows I can remember right now having them, Desperate Housewives... Read More
