I am principal author of the "Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America." I have been employed as an entomologist at the Oregon Zoo, Cincinnati Zoo, Chase Studio, Inc., and most recently the University of Massachusetts (Amherst). I have worked on contract for the Smithsonian Institution, Portland State University, and West Virginia Dept. of Natural Resources. Current volunteer editor with AllExperts.com, Bugguide.net, and WhatsThatBug.com.

Primarily Hymenoptera, especially Pompilidae, Crabronidae, Sphecidae, Chrysididae. Also working up a proposal for a popular book on fireflies. Currently finishing a chapter on assassin bugs (Reduviidae) for a book on predatory arthropods.

Entomology, cartooning, stand-up comedy, scientific illustration.

Large collection of pinned specimens (sorry!) with emphasis on Hymenoptera. I do not keep livestock.
